Driver Hire Tasmania is recruiting a Fleet 2IC for a busy transport and logistics operation based in Derwent Park.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with solid transport, freight or warehousing experience who is ready to take the next step into fleet coordination and operational leadership.
Importantly, this role starts on the floor.
You'll initially work alongside the operational team, developing a strong understanding of the site's freight movements, forklift operations, systems and processes. As your knowledge grows, you'll progressively move into the administrative and coordination functions of the operation, working directly with and supporting the Fleet Manager.
About the Role
Your initial training and grounding will include:
- Hands-on forklift operation and freight handling
- Loading and unloading vehicles
- Understanding freight movements through the facility
- Learning site systems, processes and operational requirements
- Working alongside forklift operators and drivers
- Developing a practical understanding of how the operation fits together
As you become confident with the operation, your responsibilities will expand to include:
- Supporting the Fleet Manager with daily fleet operations
- Coordinating forklift operators and truck drivers
- Assisting with the allocation and movement of vehicles, drivers and freight
- Monitoring daily workloads and operational priorities
- Communicating with drivers and the warehouse team throughout the day
- Completing administrative and system-based tasks
- Helping identify and respond to operational issues as they arise
- Supporting a safe, efficient and well-organised operation
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who understands that good operational leadership starts with knowing the operation from the ground up.
You'll ideally bring:
- Experience within transport, freight, logistics or warehousing
- Current forklift licence and good practical forklift experience
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Confidence working with drivers and operational teams
- Good computer skills and the ability to learn new systems
- The ability to prioritise and make sound decisions in a busy environment
- A practical, hands-on approach
- An interest in developing your career in fleet or transport operations
Previous fleet coordination or supervisory experience would be highly regarded, but we're equally interested in experienced operational people who have the attitude and capability to take the next step.
